Google Announces Mobile-Compatible Sites Will Rank Higher in Searches
Because so many consumers are now using their mobile devices to browse the Internet, Google has announced they are making changes to their search algorithms that will rank websites that are mobile-friendly much higher than mobile-incompatible websites in search results.
Some estimates place more than 60 percent of all Google searches on mobile phones, so Google wants to capitalize on this traffic and ensure the users will have the best possible experience, regardless of which devices they use.
“When it comes to search on mobile devices, users should get the most relevant and timely results, no matter if the information lives on mobile-friendly web pages or apps,” said members of Google’s Webmaster Help Forum team. “As more people use mobile devices to access the Internet, our algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns.”
When Google’s changes go into effect on April 21st it will be more critical than ever for businesses to have a website that is compatible with mobile devices.
